If your hair has high levels of the cortisol hormone, it might be an indication of a forthcoming heart attack! Lately, a team of Canadian scientists examined the effects of work, marital and financial problems on our health, and came to conclusion that there is a biological marker that could predict a heart attack a long time before it happens! The levels of cortisone are generally measured with blood, saliva and urine tests, but the hair is different – since it grows at a fast rate, a 5-6-inch strand can show a longer period of increased stress levels. According to the professors from the University of Western Ontario, Stan van Mind and Gideon Koran, there were present high levels of cortisol in the subjects’ urine, saliva and blood samples for days and hours before the analysis even began.
This study examined the hair strands from 56 subjects who had a heart attack, and those results were compared to hair samples from people who didn’t suffer from a heart attack, but had problems with some other diseases.
