Best Buttermilk Fried Chicken

I haven’t had fried chicken in years. I think the last time I had fried chicken, I was 11 or something. It’s not that I don’t love it.

How’s it possible to not like fried chicken?

Come to think of it, I’m not sure why I haven’t eaten it. Maybe my mom just stopped buying it at that point, and that’s when it stopped.

This buttermilk fried chicken looks 100 times better than anything I’ve seen in a store deli. I don’t think I have ever had homemade fried chicken. Maybe this is a good time to start.

Buttermilk fried chicken is very much associated wtih Southern food in my mind. I know it’s now all over the country, but that’s where my mind goes. That could be why I shy away from it. Southern food and I have a very distant relationship. I have had traditional, homemade, Southern fried catfish, and boy, did I love it. I have a feeling that this chicken will leave me feeling the same way.

  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1½ tsp baking soda
