however, is pretty stinky and harsh. If you’re unsettled by the thought of putting something that noxious so close to your skin, there are other more natural alternatives to brighten your clothes.
And you probably have most of these ingredients in your house already. Here are some of our best DIY remedies to remove stains and brighten your clothes.
Dishwasher Soap
Apparently, dish soap isn’t just for dishes. Try mixing in some dishwashing soap into your load with your laundry detergent and run through a regular wash cycle. You can also use dish soap to pre-treat stains.
Baking Soda
Mix one cup of baking soda and four liters of water together and soak your clothes in the solution for a few minutes. They should instantly brighten up.
White Vinegar
White vinegar does double duty as a whitener and softener. Just pour one cup of white vinegar into the rinse cycle of your washing machine to get your whites whiter.
You should also pour a bottle of white vinegar into your washing machine and run it without any clothes or detergent a few times a year to get rid of any buildup and gunk.
Aspirin
Aspirin will get rid of your hangover headache and all the wine you spilled on yourself in your drunken stupor. Crush up six tablets and pour into a bowl of water. Soak your clothes in the water for 30 minutes before throwing them into a regular laundry cycle.
Borax
Pour some borax into your washing machine along with your laundry detergent to brighten up your whites and remove residue and stains from your clothing. Borax also works well with your colors too.
Vinegar and Lemon
These two ingredients combine to create a powerful stain remover. Mix equal parts of vinegar and water and wash your clothes in it to remove stubborn stains. Once the stain is gone you can toss it into the washing machine.
Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide whitens, brightens, disinfects, and removes stains from your laundry. You can pour some directly onto your stains for removal or add one cup of hydrogen peroxide to your load of whites to brighten them up.
Sunshine
Instead of putting your clothes in the dryer, lay them in the sun as the sun will naturally bleach and dry your clothing.
