MARIJUANA’S LONG TERM EFFECTS ON THE BRAIN FINALLY REVEALED. YIKES!

cannabis brain

With an all-out war on marijuana and its media status of a ‘gateway drug’, exposing the benefits of this herb is essential to its legalization. Government and media propaganda refuse to accept the proven benefits of marijuana both in its medical application and the effects it has on the recreational user.

However, thanks to science we can now move on from discussing subjective opinion and enter the realm of scientific facts. Researchers from the University of Texas recently published a study exploring the effects of long – term marijuana use on the brain.

The published research presented evidence against the claims that marijuana use lowers IQ, and demonstrated that this plant can actually help Alzheimer’s patients. One of the key conclusions from the Texas research is that frequent marijuana use actually improves the work of the brain in terms of its efficiency, and increases the brain structural connectivity.

Increased use of marijuana showed no damaging effects whatsoever, and in fact it clearly demonstrated further benefits to the brain functions.

We must bear in mind, however, that these findings cannot claim any ultimate truths and facts, as the sample was around 100 study subjects. The results will need to be tested with larger test groups, but the initial results all point to the fact that a lot of people have been misinformed about marijuana’s effects on the brain.

The same study also observed loss in grey matter in long term users of marijuana in the Orbitofrontal cortex, an area of the brain related to addictive behaviors. The only thing that researchers could not figure out was whether this area of the brain was smaller in long term users right from the start, or did marijuana help reduce the grey matter in the cortex.

This research will have to be compared to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation which demonstrates that the use of cannabis actually promotes brain cells growth and reparation in people of all ages. With so much new scientific evidence being presented in the face of stubborn media propaganda, it is hard to see why humanity is making such slow progress in legalizing and widespread use of this beneficial plant.

What remains for us to do is to keep ourselves informed on the subject and raise awareness in our communities.
