Reverse Shepherd’s Pie Recipe

Reverse Shepherd’s Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Mashed potatoes (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • Mixed vegetables (frozen or fresh)
  • Brown gravy mix or prepared brown gravy
  • Shredded cheese (cheddar or your preferred type)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil or cooking spray for greasing

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with olive oil or cooking spray.
  2. Prepare the mashed potatoes if you’re making them from scratch. If using store-bought mashed potatoes, skip to step 3.
  3. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly on the bottom of the greased baking dish, forming the bottom layer.
  4. In a skillet, cook the ground beef and diced onion over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. Drain any excess grease.
  5. Add the mixed vegetables to the skillet with the cooked beef and onion. Cook until the vegetables are heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Spread the beef and vegetable mixture evenly over the mashed potatoes, creating the middle layer.
  7. Prepare the brown gravy according to package instructions or use prepared brown gravy.
  8. Pour the brown gravy over the beef and vegetable layer, covering it completely.
  9. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top of the gravy layer.
  10. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Once done, remove the reverse shepherd’s pie from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  12. Serve hot, and if desired, drizzle additional brown gravy on top before serving.
