Now if this isn’t science at its best, then we don’t know what is. Scientists are working hard on developing a bionic eye that will give humans 3x 20/20 vision, regardless of age.

The implant is called Ocumetics Bionic Eye, and is being developed under the watchful eye of Dr. Garth Webb, an optometrist living in British Columbia. This is a result of his years long search into finding a way to improve and optimize people’s eyesight, regards of age.

With this astonishing technology, people will have perfect vision which will end the need for glasses and contact lenses.  This will literally transform the eye care industry and make a set of technologies obsolete.

The bionic eye will be surgically inserted and connect instantly with your brain’s vision centers. The three times increase in perfect vision will not be the only benefit here, as those with a surgically inserted eye will never develop a cataract. This is because the tech lens replaces your natural lens which will weaken over time.

According to the chief developer, the best candidates for this lens are people older than 25 years, as their eyes are fully developed.

‘What we are going to introduce with the bionic eye is a true revolution. Nothing even remotely like it has ever been seen before,’ says Dr. Webb. ‘If before you couldn’t tell the time on a clock 10 feet away from you, with this lens you’ll be able to do that at a distance of 30 feet. It’s a game changer.’

Obviously, this lens will not be a fit – for – all kind of offering. Every recipient will get one custom made just for him/her, and all through a painless 8 – minute surgery. The patients will not feel a thing.

Costing over $3 million in research and development, patent acquisition, legal fees and operating a biomedical production facility, this is the final result of a decade long journey for Dr. Webb.

He says his desire to provide perfect eyesight to every person in the world is coming from his frustration with his less than perfect eyesight. It is his belief that no person on Earth should have to bear the burden of faulty eyes, and this is his contribution to help that cause.

Dr. Webb’s discoveries first saw the light of day when presented on San Diego to 14 of the best ophthalmologists in the county, where he received instant praise and recognition. The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery is backing him up in his efforts to qualify his tech for clinical trials first and then human testing before it becomes commercially available.

It is expected that the Bionic Lens will be available in North American in about two years, depending on the procedures and bureaucracy it will need to go through. It is Dr. Webb’s sincere hopes that this lens will replace laser surgeries, which in his expert opinion, are not as efficient as they could be.

What do you think of such a technology? Is this something you would consider for yourself, to finally get rid of your eyeglasses?
