Light, airy, and coated in a perfectly sweet vanilla glaze — these donuts taste just like they came fresh off the conveyor belt!
🧈 Ingredients:
For the donuts:
- 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- ½ cup warm water (110°F / 43°C)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup evaporated milk (or whole milk)
- 1 egg
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading)
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- Vegetable or canola oil (for frying)
For the glaze:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- ¼ cup milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Make the dough:
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water with 1 tsp of the sugar. Let sit for 5–10 min until foamy.
- In a large bowl or mixer, combine the yeast mixture, remaining sugar, milk, egg, butter, salt, and flour. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
2. Shape the donuts:
- Roll dough on a floured surface to about ½ inch thick.
- Cut out donuts using a donut cutter or two round cutters (about 3″ for the outer ring and 1″ for the center).
- Place on parchment-lined trays, cover lightly, and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
3. Fry the donuts:
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry a few donuts at a time, 1–2 minutes per side, until golden.
- Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
4. Make the glaze:
- Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- While donuts are still warm, dip them face-down into the glaze, then let them set on a wire rack.
