Buttermilk Bar Doughnut Recipe

Ingredients:
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/2 cup of buttermilk
1 egg
2 tablespoons of melted butter
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Vegetable oil for frying
Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 2-3 minutes.
Roll the dough out to 1/2 inch thickness.
Use a doughnut cutter or a round cookie cutter and a smaller round cookie cutter to cut out the doughnuts.
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 350°F.
Carefully add the doughnuts to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
Use a slotted spoon to remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on paper towels.
Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
