Long John Silver Batter 1

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder (optional, for flavor)
  • 1/4 tsp paprika (optional, for color)
  • 3/4 cup cold water (or club soda for extra crispiness)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

1️⃣ Mix dry ingredients in a bowl: flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar, and spices if using.

2️⃣ Add water slowly, whisking until a smooth batter forms. It should be thick enough to coat but still pourable. Adjust with a little more water or flour as needed.

3️⃣ Preheat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer or heavy pan.

4️⃣ Dip fish or chicken into the batter, then carefully lower into hot oil.

5️⃣ Fry until golden brown, about 3–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness.

6️⃣ Drain on paper towels and serve hot with tartar sauce, malt vinegar, or lemon wedges.
